چکیده
Abstract Context Individual species often drive habitat restoration action; however, management under this paradigm may negatively affect non-target species. Prioritization frameworks which explicitly consider benefits to target while minimizing consequences for improve strategies and outcomes. Objectives We examined extents conifer removal, an approach frequently implemented restore sagebrush ecosystems, can be conducted without detrimental effects conifer-associated species, including the imperiled Pinyon Jay ( Gymnorhinus cyanocephalus ). Additionally, we prioritized sites predicted abundance responses multiple following simulated removal at selected achieve variable objectives. Methods used model-predicted changes in species’ densities identify optimal single multi-species (ecosystem), multi-ecosystem scenarios. evaluated resulting six passerine Results Management a (Brewer’s Sparrow) provided greatest per-unit-effort that but resulted lowest population outcomes all other considered. In comparison, prioritizations within ecosystem (i.e., pinyon–juniper or sagebrush) larger associated with reduced on another ecosystem. For example, Brewer’s Sparrow average increase of 1.38% sagebrush-associated 4.58% decrease contrast, when managing songbird populations increased by 3.98% decreased 2.36%, average. Conclusions Our results illustrate result and/or opportunity costs compared designed benefit framework balance undesired is adaptable systems taxa.

Habitat Simulation Technique as a Powerful Tool for Instream Flow Needs Assessment and River Ecosystem Management
Instream flow needs (IFN) assessment studies are performed to provide guidelines for stream water management and to assess the impacts of different water projects such as weirs, dams and stream diversions on the available fish habitat. The physical habitat simulation is one of the IFN assessment methods and also a powerful tool in management of river ecosystem that has not become a common metho...
متن کاملMapping evolutionary process: a multi-taxa approach to conservation prioritization
Human-induced land use changes are causing extensive habitat fragmentation. As a result, many species are not able to shift their ranges in response to climate change and will likely need to adapt in situ to changing climate conditions. Consequently, a prudent strategy to maintain the ability of populations to adapt is to focus conservation efforts on areas where levels of intraspecific variati...

The concept of integrity, as a factor of sustaining values and significance of cultural heritage, is considered to be a key element in the process of urban heritage conservation. Review and analysis of documents, conventions and theories concerning the role of integrity in urban heritage conservation shows that in recent decades, the concept of integrity has attracted attention worldwide in the...
متن کاملHabitat loss, trophic collapse, and the decline of ecosystem services.
The provisioning of sustaining goods and services that we obtain from natural ecosystems is a strong economic justification for the conservation of biological diversity. Understanding the relationship between these goods and services and changes in the size, arrangement, and quality of natural habitats is a fundamental challenge of natural resource management. In this paper, we describe a new a...
